Mother & Wife
My gorgeous children, Amelia 13 and Koen 11, are my idols and biggest inspirations. I am so proud of who they both are and I love that I am the crazy mum that can still have fun and a laugh with them. Even better, apparently I don’t embarrass them (yet!). Wife to Mark, who knows me better than anyone in this world. When a friendship turns into love and you spend 24 hours for 6 months together, you know you can make it through anything. 22 years later and still going strong.
Energetic & Logical Human that loves a Laugh!
My family and friends mean the world to me. They often refer to me as a ‘logical sounding board’ but my favourite thing to do is to sit and have a good belly laugh with them. I’m not sure I’ll ever grow up.
Emotional Intelligence & Human Behaviour Expert
I am on a mission to break through the misconception of EI by disrupting mindsets to own performance and amplify engagement. Working with workplaces, individuals, conferences, events and through all media platforms, we will simplify the concepts and create actions that can be implemented by anyone, in any circumstance, to create the most successful outcome.
Tell us a bit about your story and how you’ve got to where you are now professionally?
After over 20 years in the corporate world working with a mixture of teams to build their EI and Leaderships skills, I decided it was time to believe in the only thing we truly have control over in this world; myself! I’d always had a fascination with the mind and whilst it was the dark side of the mind (Forensics and Criminal Psych) that first interested me, my high visual side realised the strength of what the mind could do in a positive way was what I truly loved. Working with so many different individuals gave me a true appreciation for human behaviour and the differentiator that EI really creates. Coupled with studies in NLP and Time Line Therapy, I created my own business to reach as many people as I can to create a social impact with Emotional Intelligence. I absolutely love what I do and am so thankful for the growing focus on EI.
As a female, what has been your greatest challenge in your career/business?
Mother’s guilt! Hands down, the pressure we put on ourselves to be everything to everyone then to have the guilt churning inside us as mums, is draining. As females, we are also way to judgemental on our females and mothers. The kindness needs to come from within our own gender as well. At times, we are our own worst enemy.
What has been the hardest personal challenge you have faced in life thus far?
I always struggle with this question… life is a challenge but I don’t think I have faced one particular ‘hardest’ one. I moved a lot when I was younger, changed schools 12 times which means I really love change and find it hard to pinpoint any specific moments more than others. My life has certainly has its challenges but nothing people don’t deal with on a daily basis. Running my own business is always a challenge, especially given I never had any desire to be self-employed
How have you grown as a person, mentally, emotionally and spiritually since that challenge?
I am very in touch with my emotional mind and very aware of its implications on others. I tend to wear my personality and emotions on my sleeve which make them highly contagious. I’ve learnt over the years to really understand what makes me tick and how to read other people understanding what makes each person tick. Working on my own self control and the speed at which my mind moves is always a work in progress!
How do you plan to leave your mark in the world?
By continuing to break through the misconception of EI and help others to develop their own EI. It’s not what you know or what you do, it’s how and why you do it that makes all the difference. We create so many materialistic definitions of what ‘success’ and ‘perfection’ is in our younger years that drive us round in circles chasing something that doesn’t exist or trying to become someone that we are not. I’m determined to help people understand themselves and work with who they are to really leverage their true capability.
