Tell us a bit about your story and how you’ve got to where you are now professionally?
Originally born and bred in Yorkshire, I lived in the same valley for 25 years and longed to experience the world and all it had to offer.
After meeting my Australian boyfriend (who later became my husband, and much later became my ex-husband), we made the great move to Perth where life really began!
I worked in Tourism for 13 years and absolutely loved it, but was always striving to grow and learn more about myself and the people I met, I love hearing people’s stories and connecting with amazing souls. When I saw the opportunity to work with Amy Jacobson in Emotional Intelligence- I leapt at the chance. I’ve long admired her work and love the relationship that we are creating.
I’ve been a singer for more than 20 years, never trained but still winging it.
I love the connection with an audience, and the journey that we go on at a gig. It is like a short story that we build together.
As Mum to two gorgeous little boys- I feel honoured to be part of their lives and I am passionate about shaping them into the men that they will grow to become. Like most parents- I want to give them the world, yet also want them to find it for themselves, because THAT is where true joy lies.
I’ve been a non-executive Director on the Board of a local community bank since 2017. Most people are surprised to learn that, as I have no connection with banking and I don’t strike people as a typical Board Member. I love the community involvement and having a level of social impact. I’ve always enjoyed giving back and this is a great way for me to do that.
As for being an Adorable Dickhead- this was actually how I referred to myself when I was dating, and it was the first thing that caught my partner’s attention. He remarked on it and found it to be entirely true. I love to laugh at myself- in my mind life isn’t for taking yourself too seriously.
If I ever release a perfume, it will be called ‘Adorable Dickhead’. I really should patent it before a Kardashian snaps it up.
As a female, what has been your greatest challenge in your career/business?
I worked in a heavily dominated male industry (Marine) for a number of years. Being taken seriously and seen as an equal was challenging at times, but I love a good challenge! I got to see lots of changes in my time in the industry, and even worked many times with an all female crew, to the surprise of many of the passengers. It was wonderful to experience that breakthrough and evolution of the Marine Industry.
What has been the hardest personal challenge you have faced in life thus far?
Raising children and the breakdown of my marriage when my entire family is at the other side of the world. Sometimes you just need a Mum hug.
I am so grateful for technology breaking down those barriers and instantly giving me my family on screen when I have needed them most.
How have you grown as a person, mentally, emotionally and spiritually since that challenge?
I have become much stronger mentally. The last few years were the most challenging of my life and also the most utterly rewarding. Emotionally, I feel more connected with my family than ever as we talk far more deeply than before. I am more open and transparent. Moving away from where I grew up, without people having a pre-conceived notion of my character truly allowed me the freedom to be the person I am, that I always wanted to be.
Ending my marriage and learning to support myself, emotionally and financially was extremely rewarding and made me feel like I can achieve far more than I dreamt possible.
How do you plan to leave your mark in the world?
I want to leave my mark by being the happiest soul you ever met.
That, to me, is true success.
